Stefan Live Stefan Redtenbacher
Bassist, Solo Artist, MD & Producer
Stefan Redtenbacher's career as a bassist and musician started at the age of 16 in his home town of Salzburg, Austria. He refused to play the traditional Umpahpah (!) and instead worked predominantly with a 9 piece horn band playing R&B and Tower of Power Funk tunes. The group performed in Germany, Austria, Italy and Greece.

Having fininshed business school at the age of 18, Stefan was, at first, reluctant to study music as he thought, naively, that it would supress his artistic integrity! But then, having had a very dull year studying musicology (history of musical instruments), he decided to audition for Jazz studies at the Music Conservatory in Vienna. He was accepted and during his 5-year studies he spent a significant amount of time in Paris, France playing Big Band Jazz.

Following his graduation in Austria, Stefan worked with 2 well known bands whilst also raising funds for his future studies in the USA. After his audition for Berklee College of Music he received a sholarship which gave him the green light to move to Boston, MA. Throughout his studies he worked with a Funk band, paying his dues, playing around Boston and other US states on the east coast.

After graduating from Berklee, and having just fininshed his own album, RB FUNKESTRA - 'Searching for the Stone of Funk', he moved to London, England where he started teaching at the Musicians Institute London. He set up his own band again, which featured Chaka Khan's younger sister Taka Boom, and started working with a variety of other bands which lead him to play in Switzerland (Montreux Jazz Festival, 1998), Austria (Jazzfest, Wiesen, 1999), Italy and Russia.

Since 1999 Stefan has played live alongside Steve Winwood, Sam Brown, Limahl and Tim Rice, and has recently re-recorded Queen's 'Somebody to Love' for the Miramax feature film 'Ella Enchanted' starring Minnie Driver and Eric Idle.

Other recent recording credits include: Kaci's 'I Think I Love You' (Warner Bros./Curb); Koby Israelite's 'Dance of the Idiots' (released on John Zorn's avant- garde label 'Tzadik') and 5 albums released by DeWolfe Publishing with film writer David Bradnum and former Fleetwood Mac guitarist, Bob Weston, for which Stefan also contributed as a writer.

Latest developments include the release of his second solo album - Red10bacher 'Falling From Insanity' featuring Funk legend Fred Wesley (James Brown), Elliot Randall (Steely Dan) and the horn sections of Incognito and The Brand New Heavies. Stefan's love of a crazy schedule also finds him working as MD for Ana Gracey's band and John Thwaites - singer/ songwriter, for whom he also produced the latest album, 'Super-Natural Love'.
